Domain Name Registration

A domain name is the foundation for your Internet addresses, both web (www.YourCompany.com) and e-mail (yourname@YourCompany.com). Register your domain to distinguish yourself and promote your business. Your domain-based Internet addresses never changes. Even if you change your Internet Service Provider (ISP), your domain name can follow you.

We also offer what is called "Free-Parking" services. If you have the domain name you want, but don't know what to do with it, we will simply park it on our server for NO CHARGE! Once you're ready to go we will be there to help you through the process.

Registering A New Domain Name

Squid Internet can provide Domain Name Registration at the time of your hosting account registration. Domain Name Registration is provided at a cost of $40 for a period of 2 years. Squid Internet is not responsible for incorrectly entered domain names during the ordering process unless we entered the order for you. If you receive an activation notice that has an incorrect domain name on it, contact us immediately. Where Squid Internet has placed the order for a domain name incorrectly on behalf of a customer, Squid Internet will refund the charges for the domain name registration if we are notified immediately of the error.

Transfer Or Change An Existing Domain Name

There is no charge to transfer your domain name from another hosting provider to Squid Internet. To transfer your domain name to Squid Internet, please specify a "domain transfer" when ordering. We recommend that you keep your service at your current provider while waiting for your domain name to transfer. All e-mail and web pages will still be accessed from the old provider until your domain name propagates over a period of approximately 72 hours.

Once a domain name is submitted for registration, even if the domain name was placed in error, the domain name cannot be changed and the requesting party will be charged for the registration. If you have placed an order for a domain name in error, to ensure that you have a correct domain name for your website, you must place a new order for a domain name. In the case of a domain name error, it is often useful to keep the incorrect domain name as a pointer to the correct website. Chances are that if you made the error so will others.

Domain Name FAQ

What a Domain Name Does?

Web browsers and servers work together through hosts to call up web pages by using the Internet Protocol (IP) address that is registered along with a domain name. A web browser finds a web page based on its IP address, also known as its URL (Uniform Resource Locator). All web servers on the Internet also have domain names, which are registered to a particular IP address. Domain names are easier to remember than the numerical locator that makes up the actual IP address.

Each Domain is actually a three-part designation: the host name (www, for World Wide Web), the domain name (squidinternet), and the top-level domain name, .com, which indicates a commercial or business site. Other domains include .edu, for education-oriented sites; .org, for organizations; .net, for some specialized Internet and computing sites; .gov, for government sites; and .mil, for military sites.
